DUCT CLEANING

Air ducts are the lungs of a building and over time, dirt, dust, debris, tobacco smoke,
animal hair/dander and other contaminants can accumulate inside the duct work. Dirty
ducts can also become an ideal breeding ground for pollen, mold spores, mildew,
bacteria, and other potentially harmful bio-pollutants which can pass easily through the
furnace filter and into the air you and your family or co-workers breathe.
Facts about Dryer vent cleaning:

Dryer vent cleaning improves the safety and efficiency of your dryer installation.
As dryer vents become filled with lint and other debris, drying time increases
and can cause the dryer itself to overheat. This increases energy consumption
since the dryer has to run longer to dry your clothes and can also cause fires in
the dryer or the dryer duct. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports
dryer related home fires are on the increase. CPSC figures show that in 1997
there were 16,800 dryer fires which caused 30 deaths, 430 injuries and 97.3
million dollars in property damage.

If you have noticed that your dryer is running longer than it used to you may
need to have the dryer vent cleaned. Some dryer vents are relatively short and
straight and can be cleaned easily by the homeowner, but others aren’t that easy
and may require the use of special tools and equipment. We have tools
specifically designed to clean dryer vents and with these tools we are able to do
a thorough job of cleaning even the most difficult installations. While dryer
vents are routinely blocked with lint, animal nesting is also another frequent
cause of dryer vent blockage and our equipment allows us to remove these
blockages as well.
Cleaning the air conveyance system using AIR SWEEP compressed air tools and
mechanical agitation devices to dislodge dirt and other contaminants from duct work
and other HVAC components, in conjunction with a powerful HEPA-AIR, HEPA-filtered
vacuum/collection system to remove and capture the contaminants Out of the duct
system. This method enables professional duct cleaners to remove contaminants from
the entire duct system, regardless of location.

Questions
1. When specifically should I get an air duct cleaning?
There are specific circumstances when air duct cleaning is the most
necessary and these include: when there is visual, verifiable mold present in
your heating and cooling system. Sometimes entire sections of insulation will
need to be removed and replaced, especially when mold has affected it.
Another instance when air duct cleaning is important is if you have mice or
rodent problems. Additionally, when your ducts are clogged with visual
amounts of dust and debris.

2. How do I prevent air duct contamination so I don't need an air duct cleaning
in the future? The EPA suggests that the best way to prevent contamination is
to ensure that no water or dirt enters the system to begin with. Holes in
ductwork can sometimes be the culprit. We often find animals in attics that
have eaten through ductwork, make openings where attic dust and debris is
collected and circulated through old homes. With a proper inspection, most
professional air duct cleaners can help to identify the source of air duct
contaminants.

3. Can I tell if my air ducts need cleaning?
Sometimes with a visual inspection it is clear that an air duct cleaning is
necessary. Other times, improperly installed, maintained or operated
component cause the buildup of debris or mold that can cause allergic
reactions or other symptoms if you're exposed to them. In these cases it is
important your air ducts are fully cleaned - that includes air duct cleaning the
entire system and all components.
